Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue massage has been shown to lower blood pressure, regulate stress hormones and improve heart rate, while also boosting overall well-being.
Prenatal massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema. It also reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
Postpartum massage helps to ease aching or tension that may linger from childbirth, especially in the upper back, neck, abdomen, lower back and hips. It also helps to detoxify your system and stimulate the immune system, regulate hormones, combat stress, fatigue and postpartum depression by releasing endorphins, and improve breastfeeding by encouraging the release of oxytocin (which triggers the letdown reflex). If you’ve had a cesarean, postnatal massage can help speed the recovery process.
Swedish massage is lighter than deep tissue, and provides long, gliding strokes along the muscles that helps to improve circulation and lymph drainage, as well as promoting a deep sense of relaxation and calm. It is great for general muscle tension, emotional stress, body aches and detoxification.
